WOMEN'S FA CUP REPORT | Oxford United 1 Charlton 2 (AET)

The Addicks made it through to the fifth round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup on Sunday after beating Oxford United 2-1 after extra time.

Katie Godden’s strike in the 105th minute sealed the win for Karen Hills’ side, after a tough battle.

Charlton took the lead through Beth Lumsden in the 18th minute. Ella Powell lofted in a deep cross which was parried away into the path of Lumsden who slotted home to give the Addicks a deserved lead.

Oxford equalised against the run of play through a terrible mix-up in the Charlton defence. Jaime Gotch headed the ball past Cumings after a long ball over the top to give Oxford a shock equaliser.

The game went on to become a real battle, with neither side able to take control.

Oxford had a brilliant chance to take the lead in the 63rd minute. Jess King cleared a strike off the line after a corner to keep it level.

The Addicks then had a fantastic chance of their own 10 minutes later. Vyan Sampson picked out a superb ball to King whose strike in the box was just over the bar.

With no real chances, a moment of brilliance saw Charlton regain their lead. Godden dribbled with the ball before striking from 20-yards out and into the top corner to win it for the Addicks.

Charlton will travel to Blackburn Rovers in the fifth round on Sunday, May 16th.
