MATCH PREVIEW | Northampton Town v Charlton

The Addicks will be looking to make it three wins on the spin when they head to the PTS Academy Stadium (Sixfields) to take on Northampton Town on Saturday.

Lee Bowyer's men will be full of confidence with three successive clean sheets under their belts, coupled with victories over Wigan Athletic and Blackpool over the last week.

The Cobblers, meanwhile, come into the game off the back of a midweek home victory over Swindon Town - their second league win of the season. They have won two, drawn one and lost four of their seven games, so far.

Jason Pearce, Deji Oshilaja and Alex Gilbey remain missing as they continue to recover from their respective injuries. Ben Purrington will also be unavailable as he serves his one-match ban following his red card at Blackpool on Tuesday evening.

Marcus Maddison has returned to training this week and could be in the travelling squad.

Northampton boss Keith Curle has confirmed that Nicky Adams and Benny Ashley-Seal will be fit to take on the Addicks, but Scott Pollock and Joseph Mills are sidelined with the duo ruled out for six to eight weeks.

Joe Nuttall will also be absent as he recovers from knee surgery.

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer: “It will be a tough game. They have the home advantage and picked up a good result against Swindon in the week. Anything can happen in this league, but if we turn up with the right mentality, we’ll give them a game.”

Northampton boss Keith Curle: "I'm under no illusions of the task ahead this season, but I've said it since I came into the club, we know where we are and we know what we're about.

"We accept the challenges. We will lose games and we will win games but we will stick together and that's the important thing."

Charlton and Northampton have met on 33 previous occasions, with the Addicks winning 11, the Cobblers nine and the 13 remaining matches ending in draws.

The last encounter came at Sixfields in March 2018 in what was Bowyer's first away game in charge, with the Addicks coming away with an impressive 4-0 victory - Ben Reeves and Josh Magennis netting either side of a Tariqe Fosu brace.

Sam Allison will be the man in the middle at Sixfields on Saturday. 2020/21 is his first season as an EFL official and he has taken charge of six games, so far, this term, producing 12 yellow cards and no reds.

It will be his first ever experience of refereeing a third-tier fixture having only overseen matches in League Two and the EFL Trophy, so far.

Allison became the first black referee in the top four divisions since Uriah Rennie retired in 2009 when he officiated his first League Two match in September.

The match at Sixfields Stadium is being played behind closed doors and supporters are reminded to maintain social distancing guidelines and to stay away from the stadium when the match is taking place.

Supporters can follow all the build-up to the game on Charlton's official Instagram account, official Twitter account and Facebook page as usual.
